Why CYF?
We have a unique history and development plan, which has enabled us to reach communities and deliver help in an unparalleled way.
Our History
April 2007
The Start
Formed in April 2007, we were originally a grassroots charity delivering frontline services to children, young people and families living in Nottingham’s inner-city communities. Our flexibility was what made us unique; working around interventions which were multi-issue and long term.
2007 - 2017
10 Years Growing
There was no time limit on how long children, young people and families were engaged with us. We worked with them at home, in the community and at school – often for years.
2017 - 2018
Development Plan
It’s important to us as a charity to be continually evolving in line with the communities we serve. We need to make sure that the funds and resources we deliver are of maximum benefit to the recipients. We realised that a redesign in our approach would allow us to serve a wider and more diverse population. During 2017 and 2018 we worked to redesign and relaunch our model of working, in order to to fulfil this ambition.
2020
The Pandemic
This coincided with the pandemic. We took advantage of this quiet funding period to fully research how we can grow our charity in a financially sustainable way adopting our new approach. Essentially, we now want to concentrate on embedding CYF’s learning in the community by investing in the development of community leaders and projects designed and delivered by local people.
2021 Onwards
The Lasting Impact
In this way, we believe that our work will have more of a lasting impact; that it will make communities more resourceful, sustainable and more able to help themselves. We should also point out that although these projects are small in origin, they have huge potential to grow. One example of that is Nick Stez’s collaboration with Netflix.
Our USP
Other charities may believe increasing their staffing is what will help them grow, but we’re keen to put more funds into the community than pay for a surplus of managers. We have highly experienced leaders in their field within out team, who are working closely with community leaders with lived experience to achieve astonishing artistic feats.
Already our efforts are paying off. Please see our projects page for details of the artists we work with and the projects they’re leading. We would like to invite you to join us on an exciting journey in helping us build the resilience of Nottingham’s inner-city communities as well as build a flourishing local arts industry that addresses and responds to the systemic issues that have historically caused deprivation in the area. We have already proved we are a charity that can be trusted to deliver and achieve great things. Join us.
